Family Weekend at Hjelmsjöborg
A Swedish castle for the whole family
Bring the whole family together for a weekend at Hjelmsjöborg.
Leave everyday life behind and spend a few days together in the Swedish countryside, surrounded by nature, history and plenty of space to relax, play and enjoy each other’s company.
Whether you are planning a family reunion, a multi-generational weekend or simply want to gather everyone for a few memorable days, Hjelmsjöborg offers something rather special:
Your own Swedish castle for the weekend.
Time together matters
As families grow, finding time for everyone to be together becomes increasingly difficult.
Grandparents, parents, children, siblings and cousins may live in different places and have busy lives of their own.
A weekend at Hjelmsjöborg gives everyone the chance to slow down and spend real time together.
There is no schedule you have to follow and nowhere you need to be.
Just the estate, the park, the lake and the people you came to see.
Stay together at Hjelmsjöborg
One of the best things about a family weekend is being able to stay together.
Hjelmsjöborg offers several unique accommodation options around the estate, allowing larger families and groups to stay close to one another.
Stay in the historic main building, wake up in the charming Palm House or choose from our other accommodations around the estate.
For larger groups, several accommodations can be combined so that everyone can stay on the property.
Wake up, walk outside and have breakfast together – without anyone having to get in a car.
Your own private surroundings
Hjelmsjöborg is surrounded by a large private park, with Lake Hjälmsjön right next to the estate.
There is plenty of room for children to run around, adults to relax and everyone to find their own favourite spot.
Spend the day exploring the grounds, sitting by the lake or gathering around a game.
There is no need to plan every minute.
Sometimes the best family memories happen when nothing is planned at all.
Things to do together
There is plenty to keep both children and adults entertained.
Challenge each other to a game of tennis, disc golf, croquet or mini golf. Try archery, explore the grounds or take a kayak or boat out onto Lake Hjälmsjön.
We can also help arrange games, activities and team challenges for your group.
And if you simply want to relax, there is plenty of space for that too.
Take a walk around the lake.
Have coffee in the park.
Let the children play.
Sit down for a long dinner.
Talk until late.
Make it a celebration
A family weekend does not need a special reason.
But if you have one, Hjelmsjöborg makes a beautiful setting for it.
Celebrate a birthday, anniversary, graduation or family milestone. Organise a family dinner, a barbecue in the park or a larger celebration in one of our event spaces.
The estate gives you the freedom to make the weekend your own.

The History of Hjelmsjöborg
Hjelmsjöborg was built by the Hjelme-Lundberg family in the early 20th century. Originally created as the family’s summer residence, it later became their permanent home when they moved their business from Helsingborg to Örkelljunga.
Carl Henric Hjelme-Lundberg was the director and owner of Hjelms, a renowned Swedish clothing manufacturer and official supplier of suits to the Swedish Royal Court. For many decades, Hjelms tailored suits were considered among the finest in Sweden and were worn by everyone from prominent public figures to members of the royal family.
The Hjelms clothing industry became an important part of the history of Örkelljunga and remained a prominent local business for almost a century, surviving the major Swedish textile crisis until the late 1980s. The original factory buildings still stand beside Hjelmsjöborg today, although they have since been converted into apartments.
A home inspired by the world
Hjelmsjöborg was designed by architects O. Andersson and H. Berglin.
Carl Henric and his wife Gerda were passionate travellers, and during their journeys they collected impressions and inspiration from buildings, gardens and architectural styles across Europe and Sweden. Many of these influences were brought together at Hjelmsjöborg.
The beautiful stone wall surrounding the estate was, among other things, inspired by Sofiero Palace in Helsingborg. Hundreds of cartloads of stone were brought to Hjelmsjö to create the wall.
The winter garden is believed to have been inspired by the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm, where Carl Henric Hjelme-Lundberg was a regular guest.
A self-sufficient estate
The park and buildings were carefully designed to make Hjelmsjöborg largely self-sufficient.
The gardens were laid out at the same level as Lake Hjälmsjön, while the estate’s water towers were used to pump water to the greenhouses and extensive gardens.
Fruit, vegetables and other produce could be cultivated on the estate, making the grounds not only beautiful but also an important part of everyday life at Hjelmsjöborg.
Today, the historic park, stone walls, buildings and gardens remain an important part of the character of the estate.
Hjelmsjöborg is a unique example of the eclectic architecture of the early 20th century – a place where different architectural influences, personal memories and ideas from across Europe were brought together to create a very personal home.
More than a hundred years later, many of those details remain.
And when you stay at Hjelmsjöborg, you are staying in a piece of Swedish history.

Hjelmsjöborg is non-smoking throughout the property. Smoking is only permitted at a suitable distance from our buildings, and all cigarette butts and other waste must be properly disposed of.

During your stay, only the guests included in your booking are permitted on the property. No additional events, parties or unregistered guests are allowed. Hjelmsjöborg reserves the right to ask guests to leave the property if these conditions are not followed.
